Stephen Katz

Stephen Katz, MD - Orthopedic Surgeon

Dr. Steve Katz is a Board-Certified/Fellowship-Trained Orthopaedic Surgeon who specializes in Sports Medicine and Knee Arthroscopy, Elbow Arthroscopy, Shoulder Arthroscopy, as well as Total Shoulder Replacement. He has a number of national publications on a variety of topics.

Dr. Katz has been a team doctor for a number of professional and college athletic teams, including Auburn University, the Birmingham Bulls, the Portland Pirates, USA Hockey, USA Boxing. He lives with his family in West Bath.

Karmen Blackstone

Karmen Blackstone BS, ANP

Karmen is a licensed Nurse Practitioner who works with our physicians. She focuses most of her practice on our sports medicine patients. Karmen is also a first assist in the operating room and is an active part of our provider panel at Coastal Orthopedics & Sports Medicine. She lives with her family in Pownal.

Michael J. Kulju, MD- Primary Care Sports Medicine Physician

Dr. Michael Kulju is a Board Certified, Fellowship Trained Primary Care Sports Medicine Physician who specializes in Sports Medicine, Non-Surgical Orthopaedics, and Concussion Management. He also specializes and has additional training in Diagnostic and Interventional Musculoskeletal Ultrasound. 

Dr. Kulju has served as a team physician at many levels of athletics from High School to Division 1 Collegiate Athletics. This includes Division I football, soccer, basketball, hockey, track, and lacrosse through his fellowship at the University of Notre Dame. He treats musculoskeletal and sports medicine problems in patients of all ages, including both athletes and non-athletes.

Alisa Siulinski

Alisa Siulinski, FNP-C

Alisa Siulinski, FNP-C, is a Certified Family Nurse Practitioner. She received her Master’s of Nursing at the University of Southern Maine in 2020, and received her Bachelor’s of Nursing at the University of New England in 2014. Alisa previously worked as a registered nurse at Mid Coast Hospital in the surgery department. She is excited to be a part of the team here at Coastal Ortho!

When she isn’t at work, Alisa enjoys mountain biking, running, and reading. She lives in North Yarmouth with her husband, son, and cat.


Athletic Training

Coastal Orthopedics and Sports Medicine provide Athletic Training services to the Mid-Coast Area. We provide on the field coverage for Freeport High School and Wiscasset High School. Our Athletic Trainers specialize in injury prevention, pre-season conditioning, in-season management/rehabilitation of musculoskeletal conditions, return to play progressions and postseason recovery. They also play an important role in concussion protocol. When our Athletic Trainers are not on the field they are in our Orthopedic and Physical Therapy office assisting clinicians and other clinical staff.

Rebecca Heppell

Rebecca Marple, ATC

Rebecca Marple, ATC is a certified athletic trainer with a Bachelor’s of Science in Athletic Training. Rebecca obtained her Athletic Training degree from Duquesne University in 2004.

Rebecca provides athletic training services to local middle school and high school athletes. These services include on field evaluation and treatment as well as injury prevention and sport specific rehabilitation. Rebecca is also a rehab aide in the physical therapy clinic.

Rebecca joined the Coastal Ortho team as head athletic trainer and rehab aide in 2009.
